Ole Miss Law School Turns 150

Ole Miss's Law School is celebrating its 150th anniversary. The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (Tupelo) has an article giving some of the history of the school.

Waverley Mansion

I located a rather unusual history of Waverley Mansion's cooling systems. Waverley Mansion is one of the state's antebellum homes and is located in West Point. The study was done by Mississippi State architecture students in 1996. The first section of the report contains historical information on West Point and the mansion itself.

Rust College

Rust College is an African-American Methodist-affiliated college located in Holly Springs. It was established in 1866. Read a brief history at the college's Web site.

Lee County Records to Go Online

By early 2005, Lee County's court records will be online in a fee-based basis. The public will be able to search the online records for free in the courthouse. No more will you have to lug those huge deed record books to the copier, you'll be able to call up a record and print it out! Read about it in the Daily Journal.

Hernando Library's Genealogy Room

The genealogical collection of the First Regional Library in Hernando was featured in the DeSoto Appeal section of Memphis' Commercial Appeal. Also mentioned in the article is the Genealogical Society of Desoto County's collection housed in a nearby complex.

Symposium on Manners and Southern History at Ole Miss this week
