Updates

Sorry for the very light blogging this past month. When it rains, it pours. I saw a few things I intended to blog, but circumstances prevented my doing so. I just haven't had time to blog.

Winston County historian Louis Taunton passed away in late July. His articles appeared in the local paper (Louisville, MS).

We are rapidly approaching the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. I will try to provide some links to some of the articles and event notices as I see them. For now, I give you Shawn's excellent post listing the ones she has rounded up.

The featured articles in the summer 2006 issue of Journal of Mississippi History are:

  • The Tupelo Homesteads: New Deal Agrarian Experimentation - by Fred C. Smith
  • Native Son: Rob Hall and the Daily Worker Coverage of the Emmett Till Murder Trial - by John R. Tisdale
  • Chickasaws, Tribal Laws, and the Mississippi Married Women's Property Act of 1839 - by Robert Gilmer
Update 1: Here's a link to a tribute to Louis Taunton (mentioned above).
