South Union Camp Meeting

Camp meetings were very popular in the 19th century. Many of the ones around the South tried to replicate the experience of the meeting at Cane Ridge in 1801. The South Union Camp Meeting in Choctaw County began in 1872. This camp meeting continues to the present day.

SMGHS Seminar

South Mississippi Genealogical & Historical Society is hosting its annual seminar June 23 at the Peck House Annex in Hattiesburg. For more information, visit the seminar page. Speakers include Grady Howell who will address the Civil War and Mexican War and Charles Sullivan who will talk about Beauvoir, researching the Gulf Coast counties, and Methodist camp meetings.
